Prelims:
RSA swimmers got off to a rousing start placing 7 athletes into the finals. In the Women’s 500/400 Free (LCM was swam at night) Henriette Stenkvist went on to break the North Carolina Swimming’s Women’s 15-16 record with a time of 4:48.14 qualifying her for the A Final; joining her with Sarah Henry. In the Women’s 100 Fly Sarah Henry qualified into the B Final and Jessie Godlewski in the E Final. Three Men qualified into Final swims in the Men’s 500/400 Free: Andrew Henry into the C, Dylan Kab and Mitch DeForest into the D Final. The Women’s 200 IM also saw 3 RSA qualifiers: Sarah Henry – A, Torrey Bussey – B and Henriette Stenkvist – C.
Finals:
Both Henriette Stenkvist and Sarah Henry scored in the A Finals in a heat featuring Katie Hoff with Sarah setting a new RSA Women’s 15-18 and RSA Senior Record in the 400 Free with a time of 4:16. Sarah and Torrey Bussey contributed scoring swims in the 200 IM and the 100 Fly. The 400 Medley Relay Team of Henriette Stenkvist, Torrey Bussey, Jessie Godlewski and Sarah Henry ended up placing 2nd, narrowly missing an RSA-held North Carolina Swimming 18 & Under 400 Medley Relay record by .4. Wrapping up a good 1st evening finals were Henriette Stenkvist (200 IM), Mitch DeForest (400 Free), Andrew Henry (400 Free and 200 IM) and Jessie Godlewski (100 Fly) all turning up lifetime best performances.
Friday, March 5th
Prelims:
Continuing to shine into Day 2, RSA placed 8 individual swims and 2 relays into Finals! Leading the way into Finals was Henriette Stenkvist by breaking the RSA 15-18 and RSA Senior Records in the Women’s 100 Backstroke with a time of 54.14. Also earning A or B Final spots at Friday morning’s prelim session were Henriette, Sarah Henry, Torrey Bussey; while Andrew Henry, Mitch DeForest, Jessie Godlewski and Deniz Gurel all earned C, D or E Final spots.
Finals:
With a fantastic start to Finals in Day 2, Henriette Stenkvist in her 2nd place 100 Meter Backstroke swim set a new North Carolina Swimming Women’s 15-16 and 15-18 record in 1:02.11 beating Olympians Margaret Hoelzer and Whitney Myers among others. Leading the Men’s charge with a new RSA 15-16 Men’s record in the 400 IM of 4:34.01 was Andrew Henry, narrowly missing the North Carolina Swimming record in the 15-16 record by .03. In the 100 Breaststroke, Torrey Bussey placed 7th place; finishing ahead of Olympian Caroline Burckle. Also earning lifetime best times in their finals events included Jessie Godlewski and Mitch DeForest in the 400 IM. Finishing off the evening were both men’s and women’s relay teams scoring points for RSA with the Men’s team placing 14th place and the Women’s team placing 2nd with a new North Carolina Swimming 18 & Under 200 Medley Relay record: 1:59.23.
Saturday, March 6th
Prelims:
The final morning of the 2010 Austin Grand Prix finished off with 2 great 1650 efforts from Matt Newland and Mitch DeForest. Matt dropped 8 seconds from his previous best while Mitch dropped 27 seconds in route to a new RSA 15-16 Men’s record by over 7 seconds: 15:46.94! Keeping up with the record-setting morning was Henriette Stenkvist in the 200 Backstroke by setting North Carolina Swimming records for the 15-16 Women and 15-18 Women categories with a time of 1:56.12! Also qualifying for Final swims in the final morning were Sarah Henry (A-200 Fly & A-800 Free), Jessie Godlewski (B-200 Fly), Mitch DeForest (200 Back) and Andrew Henry (200 Back).
Finals:
Finishing in record breaking style, RSA had 3 record-breaking performances on the final evening of the Grand Prix:
Henriette Stenkvist, with a 1st Place Finish, in the 200 Meter Backstroke setting the North Carolina Swimming 15-16 & 15-18 Women’s record & the Swedish National Record: 2:12.64! Sarah Henry in the Women’s 800 Freestyle set a new RSA Senior Record: 8:49.52! Jessie Godlewski in the consolation victory Women’s 200 Butterfly set a new RSA Senior Record as well: 2:17.73! Also participating in the evening finals was the Women’s 400 Free Relay Team of Henriette Stenkvist, Claire Nobles, Jessie Godlewski and Sarah Henry swimming to a 4th place finish; Andrew Henry and Mitch DeForest.
