RSA Class of 2011

By Andrew DeSorbo on 7/25/2009 8:29 AM

RSA sits in 2nd-place at the 2009 NCS LCM Senior Champs with 356 points after 2 days of competition.   We are 46 points clear of 3rd.

RSA started off the evening with a 2-3-12 finish in the 200free from Henriette Stenkvist, Hannah Caron and Sarah Henry.   Henriette’s 2:03.69 was her fastest 200 free on American soil and Sarah’s swim was once again remarkable due to her in-water start and inability to push off with two legs or kick with two legs.   Tessa Pena had another LTB in the C final after being scratched in with little warning.  Dylan Kab and Andrew Henry finished 12-14 in the men’s 200free.

Another day of LTB's for RSA at Olympic Trials. Sarah Henry time-trialed the 100 meter fly and earned a LTB of 1:03.20. Hannah Caron then time-trialed the 50 free and earned a LTB time of 27.33. Hannah's swim establishes a new RSA 15-16 women's team record in the 50 freestyle. Will Dove also participated in the tmie trials in the 400 meter free and established a new LTB of 3:55.03. Melanie Roberts swam a LTB in the 200 fly of 2:15. Jon Roberts will swim again this evening as he was 14th in the 200 meter breaststroke! Congrats to all!

Another great day for RSA at the Olympic Trials - Hannah and Sarah both achieved new LTB's in the 200im. Hannah dropped over a half-second to swim a 2:19.43 while Sarah dropped nearly 2 seconds to swim a 2:17.45. This sets a new RSA team record for 15-16 women and ties the Open team record which Melanie Roberts set last summer. Sarah's swim was also another 2008-2009 National Junior Team qualifying time. (Hannah's 100 fly from Sunday was also under the standard for the National Junior Team and she meets the age requirement but as she is attending college in the fall she is ineligible for inclusion on the National Junior Team) Will Dove also had a LTB in the 200 fly with a 2:01.25 swim nearly a 2 second drop from his previous best. Our high school athletes are now at 87.5% LTB at this meet - 87.5%! 2004 Trials had a 17% LTB success rate. This meet will likely end up producing a higher percentage of LTB's than 2004, but 87.5% is outstanding and well ahead of the curve.

While many of you have been following the Olympic Trials on TV in the evenings or watching on line, here is another brief RSA report to keep you informed.

Will Dove started us off with a LTB in the 200 meter freestyle (1:51.18). Sarah Henry followed up with a heat-winning 1:10.89 in the 100 meter breaststroke. Sarah's time was a new LTB and a near-2 second drop and also qualifies her for the 2008-2009 National Junior Team. Sarah will compete in either Guam in January of 2009 or in Vancouver, Canada in May of 2009. Melanie Roberts then had a near-miss at a second swim in the 100 breaststroke with a 19th-place finish. Torrey Bussey had a fast heat to contend with in her first Olympic Trial individual event, including a former Olympian in her heat, and turned in her best preliminary LCM 100 breaststroke swim and her third-best overall. Finally, Hannah Caron time trialed the 100 freestyle and dropped a tad for a new LTB of 58.54 seconds. It was another fun day with back-to-bac ... Read More »

The tentatively scheduled RSA time trial on the weekend of 12 July is not going to take place. We will be attending the Qualifier meet that weekend in Goldsboro 10-12 July 2008. (please note the Thursday-Saturday dates). The coaching staff decided that a formal meet will provide and more appropriate and predictable setting and venue for a season-ending meet for the RSA athletes. You should have heard from your coach about the meet, if not, please E-mail your coaches ASAP if you are interested in attending this meet.
