Seven Lakes, West End, NC- Twenty nine RSA swimmers traveled to the Pinehurst area on June 7th to compete in the 2008 North Carolina Open Water State Championship. The event takes place on Lake Echo in the Seven Lakes community in West End, NC. Swimmers competed in different open water distances based on their ages. For most of the RSA swimmers, this was their first experience in an open water event and many impressive performances were turned in.
Leading the way for RSA was Thomas Bell who took first place in the boys 10 and under, 800 meter race. Placing 3rd in the girls 10 and under, 800 meter race was Erica Hoff. Lindsay Hatt also had a strong showing in the 800 meter race.

The 11-12 year old swimmers competed in the 2K race with Kiko Lamb bringing home an 8th place medal. Other RSA swimmers in the 2K race included Carly Catella, Mary Comis, Rachel Hatt, Emma Williams. In the boys 2K race, Gavin McCulloch and Tad Spence had great swims in their first ever open water race.
RSA swimmers in the 13-14 year old 3K division included Libby Facchine, Brittany Hatt, Sammie Myers, Kendall Pena, and Torie Pena. The 13-14 year old boys in the 3K open water race were Devin Anderson, David DeJarnette, and Logan Teal.
In the 5K open division, one of the most outstanding swims of the day went to 13 year old Victoria Bell who claimed the 7th place medal in the women?s race which featured mostly 15 to 18 year old swimmers. Wayne Erb brought home the 8th place medal in the men?s open 5K. Additional great swims came from KB Burnette, Emily Facchine, Hannah Facchine, Maggie Holsinger, Matthew Newland, Claire Nobles, Tessa Pena, Meredith Rawls, and Lauren Zima.
