The 2009 January Jubilee kicked off with a bang tonight with numerous RSA team records shattered:
Henriete Stenkvist broke her own 13-14 women's record in the 1650 free by 27 seconds with a 17:02.67 performance. This time is 13th in the country for her age-group and first in NCS. Her 1000 split of 10:23 is also an RSA record.
Andrew Henry followed with another record, this a 13-14 men's record of 16:27.87 in the 1650 free which surpassed the previous record by 12 seconds and Andrew's personal best by 70 seconds.
Sarah Henry contributed with a 16:04.89 1650 free - surpassing the 10-year-old NCS record by nearly 15 seconds. This swim set RSA records in the 17-18 women and open women's category and set NCS records in the 15-18 women and Senior women categories. Sarah's 1000 split was also an RSA 17-18 and open women's team record of 9:46.09. To put this in some perspective, the 2008 NCAA champion in the 1650 recorded a 15:53 - only 11 seconds ahead of Sarah - and Sarah's time would have placed her 8th in the 2008 NCAA Championships. Sarah dropped 53 seconds from her previous best in this event.
The records continued to fall over the weekend, highlighted by another nine NCS records and another twelve RSA records.
Sarah Henry continued her record-setting ways with a 1:59.00 in the 200 fly, a 2:11.92 in the 200 breaststroke, a 1:58.12 in the 200IM and a 4:08.49 in the 400IM. All these times are new North Carolina Swimming 15-18 records and North Carolina Swimming Senior women records - she is the fastest women ever in North Carolina Swimming in all these events!
Henriette Stenkvist added to the record haul with a 1:57.36 effort in the 200 back, establishing a new North Carolina Swimming 13-14 women's record. Her time is also the fastest 18&under swim in North Carolina Swimming history, though NCS does not recognize an 18&under category for individual performances. Henriette also set a new RSA 13-14 women and new RSA Open women's record in the 100 backstroke with a 56.08 swim.
Additionally, Michael Williams and Jessie Godlewski achieved their first Junior National cuts this weekend in the 50 free and 400IM respectively. Torrey Bussey also added a new 200 backstroke Junior National cut to her arsenal of qualifying standards.
A full meet write-up will follow later this week!
