WOW! Great Meet RSA

This past weekend the 12 & Unders went to their first swim meet of the season at the BB and B/C WOW Autumn Invitational.  Everyone did such an excellent job in their first swim meet of the short course season.  For many of the swimmers that competed in the meet, it was their first USS meet ever, and they did such a great job! Even though the meet was hectic at times, parents did a great job helping the swimmers get to their events.  Eight and Unders, Victoria Bell, Natalie Hill, and David DeJarnette achieved their B times.  Victoria got her B time in the 50 backstroke, while and Natalie Hill and David got their B times in the 50 breaststroke.  Several 8 & Under Swimmers dropped  time during the meet.  Alex Clarke dropped 4 seconds in the 25 freestyle, Patrick D’Alessio took 8 seconds off of his 50 breaststroke, and Libby Facchine dropped 4 seconds on her 25 freestyle. In the 10 & Under age group both Karen Perry and Katie Mathis received their BB times in the 50 freestyle.  Karen also got BB times in the 50 backstroke, 100 freestyle, and the 50 butterfly.  Melissa Geiss got her B time in the 100 backstroke.  Deniz Gurel achieved B times in the 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, and the 50 butterfly.  Nine-year old Michael Dickey, got B times in the 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, and 100 freestyle.  In her first year round meet, Carolyn Daussin achieved her B time in the 50 breaststroke.  On Sunday, Katie Weber got her B times in the 100 freestyle and 50 butterfly. Nine-ten year olds, Andrew Clarke took 2 seconds off his 50 freestyle, Nicole Esplin dropped 3 seconds in her 100 freestyle, Emily Facchine took off  2 seconds in 50 freestyle, and Gabi Shishkoff dropped 6 seconds in the 100 breaststroke. New 11-12 year olds, Andy Lamb and Katie Olson got their B times.  Katie Olson achieved her B time in the 50 freestyle, while Andy got his in the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke.  Other great swims were turned in by Caitlin Kelly and Lindley Hill.Congratulations to the following swimmers for competing in their first year round swim meet:  Sommer Barritt, Molly Beckman, Caroline Campbell, Savannah Currens, Carolyn Daussin, Stephanie Daussin, Andy Lamb, Kiko Lamb, Anna Li, Katie Mathis, Rachel Minore, Lexi Mitchell, Cassidy Holland, Cat Jacobson, Katie Olson, Karen Perry, Matt Robertson, Julianne Strickland, Grayson Troxler, Taylor Villard, Dalton Harris, and Laura Parks.  You all swam great!  Keep up the good work in practice.

Saturday Practice
Attention: Practice for Sat. Oct. 19 for the Minnow, Nova, Wahoo, and Dolphin practice groups will be held at Candler Swim club this week due to a meet being held at Pullen Aquatic Center. Practice is still 10:30 AM-11:30AM for Minnows, Novas, and Wahoos. Dolphins are from 10:30 AM to noon.

The Next Meet: Blue Moon 12 & Under Invitational
The next meet is the Blue Moon Meet host by New Wave, and it will be held at the Triangle Sports Complex in Hillsborough, NC. The dates for the meet are Sat. Nov. 2 and Sun Nov. 3. This meet is just like the Wilmington Meet with BB and up in the morning, with B/C swimmers in the afternoon. The scratch deadline for the meet is Sunday Oct. 20. Please let Coach Brian know by Oct. 20th if you will not be attending the meet or you can only make it to one of the days. E-mail Coach Brian at bgill@swimrsa.org

Looking for a Meet Director

RSA parents we are looking for a meet director for the Reindeer Meet to be held later this year at the Hillsborough Sports Complex Dec. 7-8. We need to get this meet director soon or we will not be able to host this meet for the kids. Any parents that are interested please let me know as soon as possible.

Private Lessons
If any one is interested and needs extra help, Coach Brian is available for private swim lessons. They are $25.00 a half hour. I am in the water the entire time with the swimmer. Sometimes this is helpful because it is a one on one session, and some of these strokes and flip turns can be difficult. Contact Coach Brian by email or call the RSA office at 859-4881.

Technique for the Week

Dolphins
We had a great week of practice preparation for the WOW meet, but I noticed at the meet we really need to work on those flip turns. Remember every time you swim more than a 25, you need to do a flip turn. Practice makes perfect. We also have to make sure that when we finish in breaststroke we have to touch with two hands!

Wahoos

I was really impressed with how you swam Wahoos. There were some extremely fast races. This week will try to get better on those flip turns. Remember, when you are doing a freestyle flip turn you have to to push off on your back and then roll to your stomach, and with backstroke you have to know that stroke count.

Novas and Minnows
Great job this week everyone. For those of you that went to the meet I was so impressed how you swam. Our strokes are really looking better. Novas, we will continue to work on flip turns, and butterfly. These are tough skills so keep it up. Remember to use your hips in butterfly. Minnows, our breaststroke is looking so much better. Most of you have flat feet know so we are ready to move on to the pull so get ready.

RSA GREAT JOB THIS WEEK! I was so impressed how every single one of you swam in the meet. We still have a lot to work on, but we just started the season. See you all at practice.
