RSA-North Age Group Qualifier / Eastern 8 & Under Championships- Goldsboro, NC This weekend Feb. 8 & 9 is the RSA-North Age Group Qualifier and the 8 & Under Championships in Goldsboro, NC. All 8 & Unders and 9-10 swimmers will compete in the morning, while 11-ups will swim in the afternoon. Warm Up Times 8 & Under Easter Championships- Sat. & Sun 8 & Unders 8:00 AM (please be on deck dressed 15 minutes prior to warm up @ 7:45) Meet Starts @ 9:00 AM Eastern Qualifier- Sat. & Sun. 9-10's: 8:00 AM (please be on deck dressed 15 minutes prior to warm up @ 7:45) Meet Starts @ 9:00 AM Sat. & Sun. 11-ups: noon ((please be on deck dressed 15 minutes prior to warm up @ 11:45 AM) Meet Starts not before 1:00 PM Entries for Qualifier and 8 & Under Champs To find out what your child may be swimming at the meets please check the RSA website. Look under meets/ meet info / and then find the qualifier meet. It helps to know your event numbers and what you are swimming prior to the meet so it will not take you very long to look through the heat sheet. The meet entries are also posted on the bulletin board in the Candler lobby. What to Bring to the Meet:

After your race please make sure to come and see Coach Brian or Coach Larry. It is very important that you get feedback from your performance in each of your races. These are the times that you will learn the most about your swimming, so please see your coach after your competition! Make sure that you get a good night sleep, and eat healthy this week before the meet. DO NOT STAY UP REAL LATE! If you are swimming in the morning eat a light breakfast. Qualifier Help: RSA North is hosting the qualifier in Goldsboro, and they are in need of timers and kid pushers. If you will be going to the Qualifier and willing to volunteer please let Margaret Bell know by emailing her at rbell18@nc.rr.com. She is in contact with the meet director at RSA-North. Video Taping: Reschedule Once again I apologize for having to cancel our video taping sessions for this past week. The heater for the bubble is now fixed, and we can go back to our normal schedule. Thank you parents for being patient, and flexible with our schedule. I am going to reschedule the taping sessions for those swimmers who have not been taped to THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13th. THERE WILL BE NO PRACTICE FOR Nova, Wahoo, and Dolphin practice groups on Feb. 13th. If you have signed up for a time please come at that time for the 5 minute block so you can be video taped. A new sign-up sheet will be placed out in the Candler lobby. When you come for your 5 minute time block to be taped please come 5 minutes prior to when you signed up. Parents please come with your swimmer(s) ready to help out at the taping session. RSA TEAM T-Shirts I know that everyone has been wondering about the RSA Team T-Shirts that all members were suppose to receive joining the team. Well after several ordering problems, they are finally ordered and should be here rather quickly. The only thing we need from you are the sizes of the shirt you would like. There will be a clip board in the Candler Lobby with a spot for each child to put down there size. The shirts come in Y-MED, Y-L, A-SM, A-MED, A-L, and A-XL. The sooner you put down the size the faster we can finally get these things. You may also email me your childs size as well at bgill@swimrsa.org. Which ever way is easiest for you parents. Please do this ASAP so I can have exact sizes to the printer this week. On behalf of the coaching staff I would like to apologize for the delay in getting these shirts to you. Sorry! Summer Swimming: TSA Meetings I have received some great response from parents that would be interested in being the representative for RSA at their respective summer swim teams. I have RSA reps from the following summer clubs. Dutchman Downs, Sheperd's Vineyard, Cary Swim Club, Lochmere, and Glenridge. If there are any more parents that belong to a different summer club and would like to volunteer as an RSA representative please let me know. As soon as we get a good amount of reps for different clubs I am going to have a meeting so I can hand out information to you to distribute to the clubs. THANK YOU TO THOSE YOU HAVE DECIDED TO HELP RSA! Technique For The Week This week I wanted to give you a list of some things that you can do to dramatically improve your times at swim meets. Please look at the list and go over them this week, and next so you will remember when we get to the qualifier meet this weekend. 8 TIPS TO SWIMMING FASTER AT MEETS 1. STREAMLINE: Make sure that you streamline off of your start and each of your turns. 2. DO NOT TAKE A BREATH on you start in free and fly. Take three strokes before you take a breath 3. DO NOT BREATH OUT OF YOUR TURNS: After you do a free or fly turn do not take a breath immediately. Take two or three strokes before breath. 4. DO NOT BREATH FROM THE FLAGS TO THE WALL ON YOUR FINISH: Try your best to hold your breath from the flags to the wall on your finishes in free and fly. 5. KNOW YOUR STROKE COUNT IN BACKSTROKE ON YOUR TURNS AND FROM THE FLAGS TO THE WALL 6. DO PULLOUTS OFF YOUR STARTS AND TURNS IN BREASTSTROKE 7. DO NOT FLIP TOO CLOSE TO THE WALL ON FREE AND BACK TURNS (KNOW YOUR STROKE COUNT) 8. TOUCH WITH TWO HANDS IN BREAST AND FLY WINTER CLEANING: I have had a lot of response to this request. This may be an effort in which several parents will have to participate. I will talk to coach Dan about a date when we will do this. I will get back to those who said they can help. Thank you for the response. We were out of the water for a little while last week, so it makes coming to practice that much more important. Please come ready to listen and pay attention.
