Minnow, Nova, Wahoo, & Dolphin Parent Meeting Set for THIS Tuesday, Sept 23rd
Because of Hurricane Isabel we had to reschedule our annual short course season parent meeting. During this meeting I will be explaining meet policies, talk about practice, volunteer opportunities, and much more. It is important and vital for parents to attend this meeting! The meeting will be held from 6:00-6:45 PM at Candler Swim Club. All parents please attend!

RSA DAY, What a Success!
I hope that everyone had a great time at RSA Day! We had such an outstanding turnout for the event. We sold tons of merchandise, and the kids had a blast with the relays at practice. Thanks goes out to Wayland and Mary DeJarnette for organizing all of the apparel for RSA DAY. Thank you also to all of the parents who helped out to volunteer at the event: Carol Davis, Mike Curran, Ty Burns, Kim Kelly, Margaret Bell, Cheryl Wickham, and Joy Currens.

Chick-fil-a Calendars
Judy Glover will be on hand Tuesday night to begin distributing the Chick-fil-a calendars.  We will need at least two parent representatives, per swim group, to manage/distribute calendars to their group.  If you would like to help with this fundraiser, please see Judy Thursday evening. Judy will discuss all the specifics at the meeting.  Basically they are $5.00 each and have $20 worth of coupons in each calendar.

What to Bring to Practice
  • Dry land clothes- this includes running shoes, t-shirt, & shorts
  • swim suit
  • goggles (do not forget these because I do not have extra for other borrow)
  • towel
  • swim caps (this is optional, although I do think that girls with long hair really need to wear one)

TECHNIQUE FOR THE WEEK
Great job this week everyone. I really saw a lot of improvement in one week of practice. We will continue to work on breaststroke some this week and move into backstroke. Minnows will be getting into breaststroke this week so it is important that they attend practice. Both Dolphins and Wahoos have been working on freestyle flip turns this past week in practice. Here are a couple things to remember when doing them.
  • Always SPRINT into the wall when practicing them
  • Keep your chin to your chest and look at your belly button when you flip
  • Flip like you are sitting down in a chair. Your calf muscles and heels should come around and hit the water. By flipping this way it will prevent you from being to close to the wall when you flip
  • When you plant your feet on the wall they should be shoulder with apart
  • Always push off ON YOUR BACK! STREAMLINE

Keep up the great work in practice everyone! We have some new skills to learn that are just around the corner, so continue to come to practice and work hard.
