RSA 12 & Under Invitational Tri-Meet @ Hillsborough Sportsplex -THIS WEEKEND

It is pretty amazing that our first meet is this upcoming weekend at the Hillsborough Sportsplex. I think this should be a great meet to introduce all new swimmers to year round swimming. The coaching staff is looking forward to a great morning of fast swimming, good technique, and fun!
Saturday, October 11th

Meet Entries
The meet entries for the RSA 12 & under Invitational are posted on the web site under meet info. The entries are also posted on the Minnow, Nova, Wahoo, and Dolphin bulletin board at the Candler Swim Club. PLEASE CHECK TO SEE IF THE ENTRIES ARE CORRECT. If something is incorrect please let me know ASAP. Basically you are checking to make sure that your child is entered. Remember the coach chooses the events. If I did not get times from new swimmers then they are entered as a NO TIME or (NT). They will establish their first times in this meet. I also tried not to put swimmers in events that are illegal stroke technique wise. I think it is important to grasp the stroke before swimming it in a race.

What to Bring to the Meet
RSA caps (red or black) this is your choice, goggles, two towels, RSA T-shirt, sweatshirt/pants, activities (gameboy, books, etc.), waterbottle and healthy snacks.

Here are some Important Things to Remember About Going to a Swim Meet
  • Prior to the beginning of the meet, parents should write the events the child will be swimming on the child’s arm.  This will enable the Kid Pushers and the Clerk of Course to determine if the child is in the right place.  It is the parent’s responsibility to get the child to the Kid Pushers/Clerk of Course.
  • Immediately after each swim, your child should see the coaching staff to get feedback on their performance.  This is the best time for the child to get a clear understanding of what they did well and what things they need to work on.
  • Parents please remember the coaches are not responsible for getting the swimmers to the blocks for their race. The coaches need to make sure they watch every child's race. The 8 & Unders have kid pushers to get them to the block and will all sit in a designated area. Please be sure that your child is sitting in that area, because the kid pusher will not track the swimmer down during the meet. 9 & Overs are responsible for paying attention and getting to block for their swims.
  • There are no ribbons or awards for this meet, however I will be giving out best time ribbons to those who have established times from last year. This is suppose to be a fun meet with not a lot of pressure, everyone should go out and do their best!
  • Relays will be determined at the beginning of the swim meet on Saturday. The coaches will let you know if you are in a relay at the start of the meet. If you are in a relay PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE EARLY! If you know you cannot participate in a relay please let coach Brian know.
  • PLEASE REMEMBER: We are not all about awards and time standards.  Your child may not always have a best time or get an award, but they may do other things that the coaching staff and the swimmer should be proud of.
IKid Pushers for Tri-Meet- please be sure to report to your kid pushers immediately following warm up
8 & Under Girls: Karen Pate
We are still in need of another girls kid pusher. You will receive volunteer credit. if you would like to help out please email coach Brian at bgill@swimrsa.org
8 & Under Boys: Alison Dillard and Margaret Bell

TECHNO MEETS, Outstanding!
Through all the cold and shivers last week all of the TECHNO Meets were a great success!  Congratulations to all RSA Swimmers that participated in the events.  The coaching staff is proud of all of you.  I hope that the swimmers learned some things that they need to work on in practice this coming week. I saw a lot of concentration and work on swimming strokes correctly.  I think that all of the groups have improved dramatically since the first practice in the beginning of September.  Thanks also goes out to all the parents who helped out yesterday.  We couldn't have made this run so smooth without your help.  And thanks for keeping all the kids warm while they were in line waiting for their events. Each swimmer received a evaluation sheet and prizes for completing the skills correctly.  The meet was also swam to getting swimmers oriented to a meet situation.  The best way to prepare swimmers is to simulate what will happen at the first meet of the year. Please if any swimmers have any questions about the comments on there swimming please talk to one of the coaches. It is important that you understand what you did incorrectly, and how to fix it for all the swim meets.

Parents and swimmers the Silicone caps are in as well as latex RSA caps. I will sell the caps immediately after practice this week. The silicone are $13.00 and latex are $3.00. They come in black and red. Please pay be check ONLY made out to RSA. Cash will not be accepted. T-shirts will be in on Friday for the meet. If you do not get your shirt on Friday we will have them for you at the swim meet.

There will be no swim practice on this day. Just come wearing your costume and have a good time.

BUBBLE UP- It is TIME Once Again to Put our Dome UP
Thanks goes out to all parents who helped up our bubble up. It was a great effort by all of RSA to get this thing up every year. This year it went smooth and fast!

Chick-fil-a Calendars

Judy Glover will be on hand at practices this week trying to help sell Chik-fil-a Calendars. This fundraisers helps us heat the bubble for the winter, and keeps down the cost. There are also parents from certain groups that are helping to sell these for the club. Our sales are down from last year so we need to make a big push at the end.

Starting to Get Cooler Outside
- BRING WARMER CLOTHES TO PRACTICE!
Fall is upon us and it is starting to get much cooler outside. Please be sure to start bringing some warm clothes before and especially after practice. This means jacket, sweat shirt and pants. A hat or hood would be great to cover your wet head. Sometimes it can be hard getting back into shape after your are sick.

What to Bring to Practice
  • Dry land clothes- this includes running shoes, t-shirt, & shorts
  • swim suit
  • goggles (do not forget these because I do not have extra for other borrow)
  • towel
  • swim caps (this is optional, although I do think that girls with long hair really need to wear one)

TECHNIQUE FOR THE WEEK
This week we will have a concentration on getting ready for the swim meet. Starts, turns, and finishes will be worked on extensively for all groups this week. This is an important week for all swimmers, especially if you are attending the swim meet. The week before a meet is always a critical time for practice. Sometimes swimmers learn the most right before a swim meet. Dolphins and Wahoos will work on all four turns this week, along with some butterfly stroke work. Novas will focus on starts, finishes, and backstroke and butterfly stroke work. Minnows will finish up with breaststroke and move into backstroke this week. Please try to come to practice as much as possible this week so you are all ready to swim fast at the first meet.

I am looking forward to an exciting first meet of the season this week. Remember just go out and try to do your best. Try to remember some of the things we have practiced this first month. Look forward to seeing everyone at practice!

Coach Brian
