Here are some Important Things to Remember About Going to a Swim Meet
  • Prior to the beginning of the meet, ALL parents should write the events the child will be swimming on the child’s arm. This should include event #, heat # and lane #.   This will enable the Kid Pushers and the Clerk of Course to determine if the child is in the right place.  It is the parent's responsibility to get the child to the Kid Pushers/Clerk of Course.
  • Immediately after each swim, your child should see the coaching staff to get feedback on their performance.  This is the best time for the child to get a clear understanding of what they did well and what things they need to work on.
  • Parents please remember the coaches are not responsible for getting the swimmers to the blocks for their race. The coaches need to make sure they watch every child's race. The 8 & Unders have kid pushers to get them to the block and will all sit in a designated area. Please be sure that your child is sitting in that area, because the kid pusher will not track the swimmer down during the meet. 9 & Overs are responsible for paying attention and getting to block for their swims.
  • I will be giving out best time ribbons to those who have established times from last year or the last swim meet. Go out and swim your best!
  • Relays will be determined and posted at the beginning of the swim meet on Saturday. They will be posted in a designated area. Please check to see if you are in a relay before warm-ups. If you are in a relay PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE EARLY! If you know you cannot participate in a relay please let coach Brian know.
  • PLEASE REMEMBER: We are not all about awards and time standards.  Your child may not always have a best time or get an award, but they may do other things that the coaching staff and the swimmer should be proud of.
IKid Pushers for Turkey Meet- please be sure to report to your kid pushers immediately following warm up

Scratch Deadline for Reindeer & Fall States
The Scratch Deadline for the Reindeer Meet is Tuesday, November 18th. The Fall States Scratch Deadline has been moved to Tuesday November 25th. If you have a swimmer that has any BB times the coaching staff would like for those swimmers to participate in Fall States. I will get together a list of what meets swimmers should be going to after the Turkey Meet. If you know your child has B times or below, please plan on attending our RSA hosted Reindeer Meet. Please be sure to email coach Brian if you cannot attend the Reindeer Meet or only going for one of the days.

Update on Upcoming Meets
There are a few meets left until the Christmas season. I would like to update all of you on eligibility for these meets.
- RSA Reindeer Meet- Dec. 6-7 @ Hillsborough- This meet is for 12 & Under B/C swimmers only. If you have BB times their is the opportunity to swim events that you do not have BB times in.
- North Carolina Fall States- Dec. 12-14 @ Pullen This meet is for 12 & Under BB swimmers only. You can only swim events that you have BB times in. This meet we marked on the calendar as a priority swim meet. Meaning, if you have any BB times the coaching staff would like you to swim in it. Please try your best to make this meet. This is a championship meet that is scored, and the coaching staff believes we have a really great chance at doing really well. If you are eligible for this meet please be sure to talk to coach Brian. I want to get this figured out a head of time so parents can plan.

Reindeer Meet Volunteer Information
Two of our parents have really stepped up to the plate, and are really working hard on making our Reindeer Meet successful. Elizabeth Schmedding schmeds@earthlink.net and Melissa Gulyes Melissag@spgweb.comare co-meet directors for this meet. There is plenty of volunteer space for the meet. If you are interested in helping out please email either Elizabeth or Melissa. Our new executive director, Deanna Burkhardt dburkhardt@swimrsa.org will also be helping to get things together for the meet and you are also welcome to email her. Please be sure to welcome her to the RSA family if you see her hanging around the pool!

Minnow Practice Time Changes
Please make a note of the Minnow practice time change.
On Saturdays, they will be practicing from 11:30 AM-12:15 PM.

Starting to Get Cooler Outside- BRING WARMER CLOTHES TO PRACTICE!
Fall is upon us and it is starting to get much cooler outside. Please be sure to start bringing some warm clothes before and especially after practice. This means jacket, sweat shirt and pants. A hat or hood would be great to cover your wet head. Sometimes it can be hard getting back into shape after your are sick.

What to Bring to Practice
  • Dry land clothes- this includes running shoes, t-shirt, & shorts
  • swim suit
  • goggles (do not forget these because I do not have extra for other borrow)
  • towel
  • swim caps (this is optional, although I do think that girls with long hair really need to wear one)
  • FINS and a Fin Bag

TECHNIQUE FOR THE WEEK
I really thought that we had some outstanding practices this week. Once again, we have a meet coming up this weekend. Starts, turns, and finishes will be a focus this week for practice. These little things make a huge difference in your races. Please come to practice ready to concentrate, work hard, and listen in practice. If you are unsure about a start, a turn, or anything about your race please be sure to talk to one of the coaches prior to the meet so they can work on these things with you.

Swimmers, it is important that if you are doing more than one length of the pool you must do the turn that goes along with the stroke. The more you practice these the better you will get at them. Great job this past week!

See you all at practice

Coach Brian
