The RSA January Jubilee is this weekend January 10-11 at the Hillsborough Sportsplex.
January Jubilee Meet Update
Due to the number of swimmers participating in this weekends' meet, we decided to combine the BB and B/C sessions.  Therefore, everyone will be swimming in the afternoon.   We are re-numbering our events to alternate the BB and B/C events throughout the meet.  Your children will be swimming the same events as posted on the website, but their event numbers will change and we will combine some male and female heats to save time.  The warm-ups each day will begin at 12;00 p.m., with the meet starting at 1:00 p.m.

Warm Ups- FOR ALL BB & B/C Swimmers begin at noon with the meet starting at 1:00 PM
Meet Entries
The meet entries for the January Jubilee are posted on the web site under meet info. The entries are also posted on the Minnow, Nova, Wahoo, and Dolphin bulletin board at the Candler Swim Club. PLEASE CHECK TO SEE IF THE ENTRIES ARE CORRECT. If something is incorrect please let me know ASAP. Please note that your event numbers will change because of combined sessions!

January Jubilee Volunteer Info
With the combined session, we will be shuffling the volunteers around.  We realize that due to the time change some of our morning volunteers may not be able to fulfill their duties.  If you were signed up to work in the morning and will not be able to, please contact Kelley Miller kelleymiller@nc.rr.com no later than Wednesday morning.  On Wednesday afternoon, Kelley will create the final volunteer list.  Please be aware that we will have a surplus of volunteers in some areas and a deficit in others.  Therefore, we may move you from one position to another.  We appreciate your support and flexibility in taking on another role if necessary.  Please check your e-mail on Thursday for an update.  Additionally, we are in desperate need of kid pushers for the 8 and Under Boys--we need three people each day to help us get the younger boys to the blocks.  If you can help in this capacity, please contact Kelley Miller as soon as possible.
At the meet, there will be a sign-in sheet for volunteers.  Please be sure to initial the sheet to ensure that you receive credit for working at the meet.

Officials Clinic hosted by RSA
In addition to our meet, we will be hosting an officials clinic at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.  Any parents who are interested in becoming stroke and turn judges are encouraged to attend.  If you have parents that would like to attend, please have them e-mail Marcia Detloff at mrdod@bellsouth.net. so that she will know how many people to expect. Parents it is really important that we continue to have officials, because we cannot have meets without them. Please any RSA parents interested PLEASE ATTEND!

Here are some Important Things to Remember About Going to a Swim Meet
  • Prior to the beginning of the meet, parents should write the events the child will be swimming on the child’s arm.  This will enable the Kid Pushers and the Clerk of Course to determine if the child is in the right place.  It is the parent’s responsibility to get the child to the Kid Pushers/Clerk of Course.
  • Immediately after each swim, your child should see the coaching staff to get feedback on their performance.  This is the best time for the child to get a clear understanding of what they did well and what things they need to work on.
  • Parents please remember the coaches are not responsible for getting the swimmers to the blocks for their race. The coaches need to make sure they watch every child's race. The 8 & Unders have kid pushers to get them to the block and will all sit in a designated area. Please be sure that your child is sitting in that area, because the kid pusher will not track the swimmer down during the meet. 9 & Overs are responsible for paying attention and getting to block for their swims.
  • I will be giving out best time ribbons to those who have established times from last year or the last swim meet. Go out and swim your best!
  • Relays will be determined at the beginning of the swim meet on Saturday. They will be posted in a designated area. The coaches will let you know if you are in a relay at the start of the meet. If you are in a relay PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE EARLY! If you know you cannot participate in a relay please let coach Brian know.
  • PLEASE REMEMBER: We are not all about awards and time standards.  Your child may not always have a best time or get an award, but they may do other things that the coaching staff and the swimmer should be proud of.

Video Taping

Video Taping for ALL Minnows, Novas, Wahoos, and Dolphins will begin next Wednesday at Candler Swim Club. In order to be taped you must sign-up for a 7 minute block of time between 5:00 & 6:30 PM. Therefore, there will be no practice for Wahoos or Dolphins on this day. This is an excellent opportunity for swimmers to watch themselves in the water. A lot of the times they can really see what they need to improve on. We will tape only on Wednesdays and there will be no practice for all groups on Wednesday.

Here is a schedule for the first two taping sessions.
Session I- Wednesday, January 14 @ Candler
Session II- Wednesday, January 21 @ Candler

Please note: You will not be taped unless you bring your own VHS tape

There is a sign-up sheet on the Minnow, Nova, Wahoo, and Dolphin bulletin board, in the next You have to sign-up at the pool, you cannot sign-up via email. All swimmers must provide their own VHS Tape.

TECHNIQUE FOR THE WEEK

I hope that everyone had a great holiday and are ready to get back in the swing of things. I thought that the practices over the holiday were excellent. We really concentrated a lot on technique, and it will pay off in your races. This week have a focus of the major little things that help you in your races. These include starts, turns, & finishes. Please come to practice ready to listen and concentrate. I am looking forward to a great meet this weekend. Come ready to swim fast and have fun!

See you all at practice

Coach Brian
