247 Personal Best Times for RSA at B/C States Meet!

The North Carolina B/C States Meet was held this past weekend at
PullenAquaticCenter. The meet consisted of over 600 athletes from 18 different teams across the state of North Carolina.  For some swimmers at the Raleigh Swimming Association this was their final short course meet of the season.  RSA swimmers had 247 personal best times swum and over 100 top 8 finishes total for the meet!  This was a great opportunity for these B/C swimmers to really excel, and a great way to end their short course season, said Brian Gill RSA Head Age Group Coach.  Any swimmer that had a B time standard or below was eligible to compete in this meet. 

RSA had some great swims from 8 & Unders.  Rachel Hammond (Raleigh) led the way for the 8 & Under girls.  She had a first place finish in the 100 free, then also took second and third in the 50 free and 50 back respectively. Kiko Lamb (Cary) was also impressive.  She earned a new B in the 100 free taking fifth overall in the event.  She also finished second in the 25 breast, and seventh in the 50 free events.  The 8 & Under boys also performed well.  David Baron (Morrisville) placed third overall in the 50 breast earning him a new B time.  His teammate Drew Byland (Raleigh) was also impressive, swimming to a first place finish in the 50 breast.

Many 8 & Unders also achieved new personal best times:

The 9-10 RSA Swimmers were equally impressive.  The Friday evening session started off strong with a second place finish from Toby Rosen (Cary) in the 200 free.  With the swim he also obtained his BB time in the event.  The weekend only improved fro Rosen.  He then took first in the 100 breast, first in the 50 fly, and finished out the weekend with a first place finish in the 100 free.  Teammate Patrick D’Alessio (Cary) was also impressive.  D’Alessio swam to two new BB times.  One in the 100 back where he placed second and the other BB time came  in the 100 IM, and took first in the event.  He was also sixth in the 50 free, fourth in the 50 fly and placed fifth in the 100 free.  On the girls side Tiffany Flood (Cary) paved the way.  She placed third in the 100 breast, sixth in both the 50 free and 50 fly, and finished seventh in the 50 breast.  Flood swam to new BB times in the 50 free, 100 breast, and 50 fly events.

All the excitement and fast swimming began for the RSA 11-12 year olds on Friday evening in the 500 freestyle.  In their first swims ever in this event both Gabi Shishkoff (Cary) and Matt Lower (Apex) certainly set the stage for the swim meet.  Gabi Shishkoff swam to a second place finish in the event, and also swam to a new BB time.  Matt Lower won the boys 500 free and took first overall in the event.  Lower’s swimming continued to impress throughout the weekend.  He also finished first in two other events.  He placed first in both the 100 free and 50 fly events.  He also had a second place finish in the 200 free, placed 3rd in the 50 free, and swam to a fourth place finish in the 100 IM.  Sean Lanier (Raleigh) had some excellent swims for RSA.  Lanier took first in the 100 IM, and also placed 3rd in both the 500 free and 100 backstroke events.  On the girls side there were some outstanding swims from Allisen Schult, Becca Young, and Lindsey Yingling.  Allisen Schult (Raleigh) had an outstanding weekend of swimming.  She placed first in the 50 breast, and took second in both the 100 IM and 100 breaststroke events.  In her first meet aging up to an 11-12 year old Becca Young (Cary) was amazing.  She swam to a first place finish in the 50 backstroke, winning the event.  Then that same evening she led off the 11-12 girls Medley Relay swimming backstroke and broke her own personal best that she swam that same day!  Lindsey Yingling (Apex) was solid for RSA.  She took fifth in both the 50 breast and 100 fly.  She also swam to an eighth place finish in the 100 IM.

RSA had some good swims as well in the 13-18 age groups.  Brittany Crisp (Cary) placed 7th in the 100 breast and took 8th in the 200 breast.  Sarah Hecht (Cary) had a great meet on Sunday taking 6th in the 100 breast and placed 7th in the 100 fly.  JC Curtis (Raleigh) stepped up on the boy’s side.  He placed 7th in the 200 IM and took 8th in the 200 backstroke.  Kristian Hellem (Holly Springs) also swam excellent, taking 6th in the 200 IM. Steph Daussin had had a ten second time drop and personal best in the 200 free. Yuen Ho also swam to a new best time in the 50 free, dropping 4 seconds. Amy Holsinger swam to personal bests in both the 100 fly and 200 free. Casey Shi swam to new BB times in the 100 free and 100 back.
